Drawing on more than a 15 years of experience, Hughene Acheson is an art industry professional with expert knowledge of primary and secondary markets in Canada and abroad. Hughene has worked with more than $ 182 million worth of art, consigning and cataloguing paintings and sculpture from a range of emerging and established international markets. As a private collections manager, Hughene helps clients develop their investment portfolio by identifying, sourcing and acquiring pieces appropriate to their tastes and budget. Hughene also appraises cultural property for a number of Canadian institutions. She is accredited by the International Society of Appraisers (ISA), having completed the organization’s Core Corse and Fine Art Specialization course in Chicago.

Hughene graduated from Queen’s University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Art History. She graduated two years later from the University of St. Andrews with a Master of Letters specializing in Venetian Renaissance Art. Hughene has worked at Christie’s in New York City, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice and for the Cultural Affairs Department at the Canadian Embassy in Washington. Before settling in Oakville in 2009 to found Hughene Acheson Fine Art Consulting, she was Director of Client Services at Toronto’s Heffel Fine Art Auction House for many years.

Hughene has been an active member of the International Society of Appraisers since 2009. In 2013, Hughene was elected onto the Board of Directors of the ISA; she currently serves as Secretary. Hughene keeps abreast of her Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice certification, most recently in 2017.
