Membership Levels and Progression Policy

MEMBERSHIP LEVELS and PROGRESSION POLICY

Effective April 28, 2024

ISA adheres to all standards and requirements put forth by The Appraisal Foundation. Their standards can be reviewed on their website: appraisalfoundation.org.

All ISA members must abide by the ISA Membership requirements and requalification procedures. All ISA Members, regardless of membership level, will be expected to adhere to the ISA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and must sign the affidavit section of the ISA Membership application stating that they have read and agree to abide by these requirements.

ISA members of any membership level must write reports to the ISA Appraisal Report Writing Standards and abide by the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct in their appraisal dealings. Non-compliance will be subject to discipline by the Ethics Committee.

Candidate Level

Candidates for membership are those whose applications have been approved. Please see the Admissions policy for complete admission requirement details.

Candidates have three (3) years to progress to Member level. If the Candidate has not progressed to Member level within three years, they will be dropped from the ISA membership rolls.

Candidates must remain up to date on Continuing Education requirements. Please see the Continuing Education policy for complete information.

Candidates may not advertise or affiliate themselves in any way with ISA.

Member Level

To become a Member, Candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Pass the Core Course in Appraisal Studies.
  • Pass the 15 HR USPAP course.
  • Pay any balances due.

Once a Candidate reaches the Member level, the Member has three (3) years to progress to the Accredited Member level. It is required that all ISA Members attain the Accredited Member level. If the Member has not reached the Accredited Member level after three years, they will be demoted to Candidate level and must retake the Core Course in Appraisal Studies. Any benefits granted at the Member level will be revoked.

Members may state that they are Members of ISA.

Once the Member status has been achieved, the member must maintain continuing education and pay yearly dues to remain in good standing at the Member level. See the Continuing Education policy for details.

Accredited Level

To become an Accredited Member, Members must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Fulfill all Member level requirements.
  • Demonstrate successful completion of an ISA-approved methodology pathway with a report-writing requirement.
  • Present personal property methodology proficiency work product for analysis and approval by ISA.
  • Provide documentation demonstrating at least 700 HRs of USPAP-compliant appraisal work products.
  • Be up to date on continuing education.
  • Pay any applicable fees and balances due.

It is required that all ISA Members attain the Accredited Member level.

Once the Accredited Member status has been achieved, the member must maintain continuing education and pay yearly dues to remain in good standing at the Accredited Member level. See the Continuing Education policy for details.

Certified Level

A Certified Appraiser of Personal Property (CAPP) must apply for the program and fulfill the requirements outlined below. Progressing to the ISA CAPP level is optional.

  • Be an Accredited Member in good standing.
  • Be up to date on their continuing education.
  • Pay a CAPP application fee.
  • Pay any balances due.
  • Pass a certification exam.
  • Present personal property methodology proficiency work product for analysis and approval by ISA.
  • Pass an appraisal report review as outlined in the CAPP applicant report guide.
  • Provide documentation demonstrating an additional 200 HRs of USPAP-compliant appraisal work product accumulated within the preceding 5-year period.
  • Provide documentation of 100 Professional Development Credits (PDCs). Approved activities are published in the ISA Credentialing and Requalification Guidelines document. CAPP applicants will not be given Professional Development Credit for billable appraisal hours due to the 200 HRs USPAP requirement.

ISA may require additional information or steps to qualify for this membership level individually.

CAPP applicants must complete the CAPP process within one (1) year from the program's application date, or the CAPP applicant must reapply and pass the CAPP process OR take the Requalification course in the following year.

Once the CAPP Member status has been achieved, the member must maintain continuing education and pay yearly dues to remain in good standing at the CAPP Member level. See the Continuing Education policy for details.

Life Member Level

Life Member is an honorary designation for Accredited or Certified Members who have served ISA and the profession of Personal Property Appraisers. Prospective Life Members must apply for the program and fulfill the requirements as outlined below:

  • Be an Accredited or CAPP Member in good standing.
  • Be up to date on their continuing education.
  • Pay any balances due.
  • Apply for Life Membership by the published deadline.

ISA may require additional information or steps to qualify for this membership level individually.

The ISA Board of Directors will review the application and determine eligibility to award the Life Member classification at their discretion.

Once the Life Member status has been achieved, the member must maintain continuing education and pay yearly dues to remain in good standing at the Life Member level. See the Continuing Education policy for details.

 

ISA reserves the right to change or enact any policy without notice. Any additions or changes to ISA policy will be effective immediately.

ISA reserves the right to make exceptions to policy on an individual basis.
