About

I am a graduate of USC, Sotheby's Institute of Art, and the ISA Core Course as well as the Specialty Course in Fine Art. I have an emphasis in Fine Art (Western Modern and Contemporary) and I also appraise Antiques, Other Collectibles, and General Household Contents.  My company "Art Mode Appraisals" is based in South Lake Tahoe.  We are happy to travel to meet your needs!

I was an Art Conservation Science Fulbright Scholar in Florence, Italy in 2003-2004, where I studied the Italian methodology in non-destructive art conservation science at the Istituto di Fisica Applicata (Institute of Applied Physics).  Based on my time in Italy, I concluded I did not want to be a scientist, although I was very successful in that field (having also worked at the LACMA and the Getty Conservation Labs).  I knew I was looking for something else that would allow me to work with people and be more creative.....appraising fine art and collectibles is my true calling.

My time running a business for over a decade, my experience at contemporary art galleries, fine art frame shops, conservation science labs, plus my education at Sotheby's Institute in London and the University of Southern California have prepared me well for fine art appraising.  This field is a great combination of skills:  an unyielding passion for art, a sharp mind, an organized work ethic, great customer care, a strong artistic eye, an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and a total dedication to getting the job done thoroughly, impartially, and ethically.  I truly look forward to working with you for all your personal property needs!

I help with estate planning and distribution, family trusts, insurance claims and coverage, and general financial planning.  I love bringing clarity to people's lives when they know more about what they own, what they cherish, and what items they're curious about.  Send an email or give me a call to set up a free 20 min phone consult:  artmodeappraisals@gmail.com 530.494.9848

This 6 week course focused on the broad field of art writing, whether in the form of an art exhibition review, artist interview, writing an artist statement/biography, fine art criticism, or art essays.  Course materials discussed the many approaches to all of these formats that are currently in use in the art world, as well as encouraging students to hone their own art writing skills.

International Society of Appraisers:  Fine Arts Specialty Course        June 2021

The Fine Arts Specialty Course was not just an art history course.  In fact, we covered 40,000 years of art history on the first day!  After that we dove into the making of various forms of art.  We learned what materials go into making a sculpture, a painting, a print, or an assemblage.  We also covered the history of frames and photography, and discussed proper due diligence and research methods for art appraising.  It was a fantastic course with incredible teachers.  Our final test was both a multiple choice and practical exam, where we had to write an insurance report that was 25 pages long.  I am thrilled to be an ISA Accredited Member!

International Society of Appraisers:  Core Course in Appraising       Dec 2018
