Personal Profile – Reba Jo Fleming

My profession is driven by a love for things old, preserving our heritages and a passion for letting people understand what they possess.  My career began at a high-end resell store where I priced items and entered them into the inventory system, as well as assisted with sales.  From there, I started an antique business selling vintage clothing, furniture, and objects d’art.  After a house fire, I unfortunately realized the need for having professional property appraisals, and also the lack of accredited personal property appraisers in this area. 

As a side interest, I have worked on several projects creating artwork and layouts for music album materials.  My photography has been displayed in several shows at the Amarillo Art Center.  I am also a graduate of Amarillo College with an Associates Degree in Fine Art.  

Before my career turned toward appraising, I worked in the accounting field at Mesa Petroleum Co., Pioneer Production Co., and Pioneer Gas Products for 15 years.  Oil & gas revenue & royalty accounting, oil & gas tax reporting, and job cost accounting were a few of the segments of accounting I worked in.  Also, I was fortunate enough to be able to set up my husband’s businesses and accounting procedures on a computer system.  From these experiences, I saw the end-to-end process of accounting, which has enabled me to understand the business side of each transaction and the importance of conducting my work properly, thoroughly, and ethically. 

Recently, I was given the opportunity to appraise vintage fine and high end costume jewelry items donated to the West Texas A & M Foundation.
