Admissions and Bridging Admissions Policies

ADMISSIONS POLICY

Effective April 28, 2024

Anyone may apply to become a member of ISA. All applications are taken online through the ISA website. Applicants must have their application approved by ISA. Applicants may not advertise or affiliate themselves in any way with ISA. ISA reserves the right to deny admission to anyone.

ISA adheres to all standards and requirements put forth by The Appraisal Foundation. Their standards can be reviewed on their website: appraisalfoundation.org.

All ISA members must abide by the ISA Membership requirements and requalification procedures. All ISA Members, regardless of membership level, will be expected to adhere to the ISA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and must sign the affidavit section of the ISA Membership application stating that they have read and agree to abide by these requirements.

Requirements for admission:

  • Complete the online application.
  • Pay any applicable application fees.
  • Pay the current dues.
  • Receive a minimum of three endorsements from references.
  • Provide proof of at least 30 college credit hours at an accredited institution.
  • Submit a resume showing approximately 3 years of market experience.
  • Receive official approval.

Anyone not accepted into membership will receive a complete refund of membership dues paid at the time of application, minus the application fee amount. This is regardless of whether an application fee was initially paid or not.

At the time of publication of this policy, ISA offers a bundle discount on admissions if the applicant chooses to enroll in the Core Course simultaneously. Please note that the online courses have a deadline. The Core Course deadline is six months from enrollment, and the clock starts immediately upon purchase.

ISA reserves the right to change or enact any policy without notice. Any additions or changes to ISA policy will be effective immediately.

ISA reserves the right to make exceptions to policy on an individual basis.


 

BRIDGING ADMISSIONS POLICY

Members of the Appraisers Association of America or the American Society of Appraisers in good standing who meet specific criteria may directly become an ISA member at the Accredited Member level.

Applicants may not advertise or affiliate themselves in any way with ISA. ISA reserves the right to deny admission to anyone.

ISA adheres to all standards and requirements put forth by The Appraisal Foundation. Their standards can be reviewed on their website: appraisalfoundation.org.

All ISA members must abide by the ISA Membership requirements and requalification procedures. All ISA Members, regardless of membership level, will be expected to adhere to the ISA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and must sign the affidavit section of the ISA Membership application stating that they have read and agree to abide by these requirements.

Prospective Bridging Members must apply for membership and fulfill the requirements as outlined below:

  • Be an AAA or ASA member in good standing.
  • Be up to date on their USPAP continuing education.
  • Pay the application fee.
  • Pay any current membership dues, prorated by quarter.
  • Bridging applicants must provide the information outlined below based on their current membership level at their membership organization.

The requirements for bridging differ based on the membership/designation level you have achieved at the other organization. 

 For AAA Accredited members, or ASA Candidate OR Accredited members, the applicant must:

  • Complete the ISA membership application
  • Be a member in good standing of the indicated organization
  • Provide proof of current membership level in the indicated organization
  • Provide proof of completion of the current version of either the 15 HR USPAP or the 7 HR USPAP course for personal property appraisers
  • Provide proof of 55 hours of methodology coursework OR take and pass ISA's Core Course in Appraisal Studies
  • Provide proof of 55 hours of specialty coursework or successfully pass ISA's Fine Art OR Antiques, Furnishings, and Decorative Arts course OR the pathway through the ISA Specialty and Advanced Studies
  • Provide proof of three (3) years of market-related non-appraisal experience
  • Provide proof of 700 hours of appraisal experience
  • Provide a recent resume indicating at least 30 semester hours of college credit

The applicant will receive notice when their application is approved. At that time, the applicant will submit a written appraisal report as outlined by ISA, to be written under the ISA report writing standards. The report will be subject to peer review by selected readers through the Specialty and Advanced Studies process. Upon successful completion, the ISA Accredited Membership will be awarded.

For AAA Certified members, or ASA Senior Accredited members, the applicant must:

• Complete the ISA membership application
• Be a member in good standing of the indicated organization
• Provide proof of current membership level in the indicated organization
• Provide proof of completion of the current version of either the 15 HR USPAP or the 7 HR USPAP course for personal property appraisers
• Provide a recent resume indicating at least 30 semester hours of college credit
